What is Schisandra Chinensis extract ?

Schizandra Chinensis, according to Wikipedia, gets its name from the fact that its berries possess all five basic flavors: salty, sweet, sour, pungent (spicy), and bitter, sometimes Schizandra, as a Traditional Chinese Medicine belonging to the family of Schisandraceae, is referred to as Chinese Magnolia Vine; It is a deciduous woody vine growing up to 8m long with yellowish-white to pinkish flowers and bears fruits 5-8mm in size and bearing a deep red color.These fruits are where the main bioactive components of Schizandra Chinensis exist, and they are sometimes referred to as Fructus Schizandra. The fruit has a slightly sour taste, and the seeds are more pungent and bitter.

Major chemical composition of Schisaandra Chinensis extract

The major constituents are lignans of biological interest with the dibenzo[ α,c]cyclooctadiene skeleton. Among the approximately 30 lignans are schizandrin (schisandrin, schisandrol A, wuweizichun A, 0.2–0.7%), gomisin A (schisandrol B, wuweizichun B, wuweizi alcohol B, 0.1–3.0%), deoxyschizandrin (deoxyschisandrin, schisandrin A, wuweizisu A, 0.1– 9.0%), (±)-γ-schizandrin (schisandrin B, γ-schisandrin B, wuweizisu B, 0.1–5.0%), and gomisin N (pseudo-γ-schisandrin B, 0.1–0.5%)
