What is evodiamine?
Evodiamine is a chemical compound extracted from a
particular species of tree, usually known as Evodia trees or Bee Bee Trees
found in China, and is said to possess anti-obesity effects along with
anti-inflammatory and anti-infectious properties among many others.
Evodiamine is also known as Wu-Chu-Yu, and is used by Chinese herbal
specialists as a weight
loss supplement. Evodiamine as an ingredient
has had increasing interest from the scientific community in the past decade or
so. Recently, a review article examined the Evodia species of trees and its
major bioactive compounds including Dehydroevodiamine, Evodiamine and
Rutaecarpine. The review stated these extracts could prove beneficial for
analgesic (pain reducing), cardiovascular and gastrointestinal effects due to
its action on CGRP (calcitonin gene-related peptide) release.
Benefits of taking evodiamine extract supplements:
Anti-Obesity and
anti-infection. It is useful for those who exercise
regularly or at high intensities who may have lowered immune systems,
Evodiamine also possesses anti-obesity properties. Recent animal studies have
been able to show that Evodiamine has similar thermogenic and stimulatory
properties as that of another well known fat loss ingredient; capsaicin.
Anti-cancer. Although evodiamine is primarily used as a weight loss tool, it is
also considered to be effective as an inhibitor to cancer. Studies shows taht
extracts of evodia fruit strongly inhibit the growth of one specific bacteria
(Helicobacter pylori, a bacteria usually treated in mainstream medicine with
antibiotics). Unlike conventional antibiotics, the extract did not alter the
growth patterns of any other intestinal bacteria. This finding supports the
traditional use of evodia fruit in digestive disorders.
